What exactly is The Math?
Ah, yes. The math. Ever since I was a boy; during the time of hippies, hair and Herman’s Hermits, several variants of the phrase: “Do the math.” kept showing up in movies, conversations and books. In every instance there was always a process occurring, usually involving rational thought and judgment. There might be a scene in a movie where a character would be explaining a sequence of events that led to what they considered an obvious conclusion, which would end with “…and you can do the math from there.” Other times, you might be talking to someone who was sharing an experience with you and after stating several events in sequence, might say “so I did the math and realized …”. We do “math” every time we think, or at least we can. It includes reasoning, deducing, concluding, analyzing, actual mathematics, and everything else that is possible in a human mind, all filtered through our individual judgment, which I call “the blackboard on which we do the math”. If one thinks about it enough, eventually the conclusion is that it’s all math. Precisely. That’s why I share my math here, because if any one of us doesn’t share their math, it tends to die alone. No one’s math should die alone; it’s all good math.
